BEASTMASTERS !?!? (dervish and paragon)
I havent found a thread- search button wont work... so maybe this thread will get merged.... anyways-
Ever since GW came out ive been trying to find a good way to use beastmastery... and nothing ever seems to work for me (although i did have fun as an ice spike/pet combo before)
So heres the question-
Have you tried D/R or D/P with a pet yet?? Dervishes might not work so well for it.. but something tells me that Paragons might REALLY benefit from using a high Beast Mastery score.
Please post any theories or builds you have used for this style of play.
I have not gotten to play as Paragon yet... but the Dervish REALLY made me lose sleep last night- 2 hours sleep and im at work
Again, this thread is for sharing BEASTMASTERY combos with the new professions... lets try to keep it that way

They have a BM premade build. P/R. Works pretty well.

all that proves to me is that you havent found a good build for it yet.
pets are far from useless, IMHO.... the problem is, is that nobody is GOOD ENOUGH with them to make it as cheap and pwning as it COULD be.
You dont think that Paragon/Beastmaster will ever evolve past the premade build?
Come on, people...

I have been trying to make a proper BM build for a while now, the MAIN problem i've run in is simple really:
- The targeting of PETS (and Minions for that matter) is rubbish/non-existant.
I recon a Key bind for a Pet attack ONLY is needed. and RUN bind (pet breaks off attack and comes back to you) would be handy.
Minions have the same problem...though i can accept that from them because you have a few to work with and they are supposed to be undead monsters...Except the Golem which i think deserves some IQ.
On the same line, Minions and the Flesh Golem deserve a HP menu of their own.
At the moment i just find it too awkward to micro-manage my pet (which takes up TWO slots ...sigh) heal it, buff it and keep myself out of harms way while doing damage. I wish A-net would sort this out because as it stands pets just aint worth the slots they take up on the skill bar.

Pets are retarded chunks of meat, sorta like your average pve tank, so until they give their IQ some steroids, the best use in pvp will be the thumper or maybe a full r/p premade with a necro blowing up the corpses, I can see that owning in HA.

share with me your owning build.. if not ill stick with my opinion that pets are meat shields and have sucked since release... they just look cool and have very limited uses... they are not worth the attribute spread into beast mastery. Enter the most retarted skill in the game... otouyu's cry

You're just like those people that continue raving that assassin is a half decent class.

I agree that relying on pets too much can be difficult at times because of the poor AI and response time of the pets, but even if you don't bring any pet attack skills, just having a second lvl 20 NPC running around with you, without the experience or party spot loss of a henchman makes pets really useful. add in an attack skill for them to boost their effectiveness and they have even more use. with a ranged class like rangers(or now paragons) it's also really useful to have a melee fighter go and engage the enemy, draw aggro and therefore allow you to attack safely at range. true this means that the pet is not a highly skilled fighter, but it's a NPC so really we can't expect it to be as good as a real player, but it still puts pets in a position of good use other than just fodder for minion masters.
That being said, with alot of builds that does end up being their use and in alot of other builds they are totally useless. just like any skill or build, pets don't work for everything, but if they were useless, then no one would still be using them(since the ranger is a core class and therefore has been around long enough)

Pets are far From useless. You just havent met any one that knows how to use them. I know i made a lot of Eles, and Monks cry with my Disrupting Lunge and Distracting Shot combo. Plus their always the Poisonous Bite along with Scavenger Strike combo. What i am worry about is the R/P or P/R combo replacing old beastmaster combos. All i see in PvP now is Rangers with spears. Just hope rangers and rangers bows dont become useless

Theres a Beastmaster build on the Gameamp website, and its pretty damn good.
Pets are pretty lame though. That same build can all go pear shaped quick though. Maybe Anet will improve their intel for Nightfall. Youd imagine large herds of Lions and Elephants in Africa/Nightfall's setting, which would actually make otoyugh's(or whatever) cry half decent for PvE.
I dont think the Paragon will make that great a combo with a beast, just because they only have two pips of energy regen.

Maybe bows will get a buff somewhere along the line, or for short range they will get replaced by spears I think.

Please think about it for a sec... it's OBVIOUSLY because it's one of the pre-made builds you can play, and people are testing it.
